Each year, Saint Paul repairs 10 of its over 1000 miles of sidewalk. Resident artist Marcus Young envisions the city as a book and sees sidewalks as blank pages. With the Public Works Department, he integrated specifications for stamping poems into the concrete for the 2008 season. Over 2000 poems gushed into the Public Works mailbox in response to a citywide poetry contest. 20 poems were selected and up to 100 stampings will be made in the initial effort.
